Rebekah and Steve’s Engagement Shoot

Smack in the middle of the craziness of our move to Malibu, Rebekah called me, wanting to set up an appointment immediately. It was Saturday and she and her friend really wanted to meet me on Sunday. I told her that I would love to meet with her but, unfortunately, I had no babysitter on Sunday and her response was “Come meet us with the baby, we’ve both worked as nannies! We LOVE babies.” Needless to say, Rebekah is the perfect client for me!

Steve and Rebekah met on Jdate. She lives in San Diego and he lives in Canada (Ugh, I forgot the city!)…anyway, they had one date when Steve came for vacation and they hit it off so well that he came down for another month! I really had fun running around Venice Beach with these two and hearing all about their courtship. It’s so romantic!

Jennifer and David’s Engagement Shoot

I photographed Jennifer’s sister Melissa’s wedding back in November of ‘05 and I distinctly remember sitting in her parent’s living room and noticing a photo of her sister Jennifer with President Clinton. Of course, I always have to look at all the photos around when I go to people’s houses. I vaguely remember her parents telling me that she had been a white house intern (or something like that) and since then she’s always had this kind of mystique in the back of my mind. I was really excited when Melissa called and said her sister was getting married and I am honored to be working with the family again. When I asked Jennifer what kind of vibe she wanted for her engagement shoot, she said “Well, we just go to bookstores and coffeeshops”. So guess what, that’s where we went!

The Knot Magazine- Best of Weddings!

Yay!  The National Knot Magazine for Best of Weddings just came out and for the 2nd year in a row Kim Fox Photography was voted by brides as one of the best wedding photographers in Los Angeles.  Thank you to everyone who voted for me and I’m thrilled you are happy.  As soon as I get the PDF of the artwork for the magazine I will post it but definitely go buy the Magazine! :-)

Laura and Mike’s Wedding – 3.29.08

Well, it’s back into the swing of things after a long and well deserved belated maternity leave! Since I had Tess in the middle of wedding season last year, I couldn’t exactly just take 3 months off. Once holiday orders were delivered, I vowed I would take it easy starting in January and that I did….working mabye 5 hours a day instead of the usual 12! Laura and Mike’s wedding was a great way to dive back in. They were referred to me by Red Orchid Design and I just thought they were totally cool when they came to my office. The wedding was at the Newport Dunes in Newport Beach. Laura and Mike both went to USC and Laura is now works there, so the big suprise was that they would have the USC marching band! I guess, I’ve never paid that much attention to marching band music, but they really ROCK! Mike was SOOOO suprised. When I came to the hotel to do getting ready photos, I first heard Laura in the bathroom laughing. May I say, she has the greatest laugh. You know when someone has the greatest laugh. One funny photographer thing – one of our industry leaders, Mike Colon and his wife, were attending the wedding. Mike is an amazing wedding photographer and leads many panels at the conventions, etc….I’m a big fan. Anyway, I was a little intimidated when I found out he was there but I do want to thank him for being totally cool and not watching everything we did or shooting with us. I mean, just because we are wedding photographers doesn’t mean that we can’t just sit and enjoy a wedding!

Award of Excellence!

This is the first year that I submitted some work to the WPPI Photo Competition and I won an award of excellence for what I titled “Modern Bride”. Cat and Adi from Next Exit Photography thought I should submit this image and I took their advice (it’s so hard to judge our own work, you know?) This was from Tamara and Zachary’s wedding and it’s a photo of her nursing her son (with Zachary) before the ceremony in her wedding dress. Obviously, it’s provocative on many levels, but now the image is especially dear to my heart because I’ve been nursing MY little one all year. I do want to thank all my brides and grooms who have been so understanding about my need to “express milk” during the wedding. I mean, never in a million years when I got pregnant did I envision that! I guess I figured that I’d nurse for a few months and be done with it, but we are 9 months, 100% breastfed and going strong. Wow, who ever thought I’d be a lactavist! Anyway, back to the image. I just love Tamara’s expression. It’s so “Mona Lisa-esq!” Unfortunately, I didn’t get to go to the convention this year to see it hanging but Heather said she took a snap of it so I’ll post that as soon as I get it!
